JRR Tolkien’s Shire Recreated In Minecraft — And How!

on

One of the most visually stunning Minecraft projects has been making waves over the last 24 hours. A team of 25 anonymous builders worked for nearly a year on a recreation of The Shire from The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Now they’ve completed the task and are sharing their photos.

“Arguably one of the most detailed and well-researched maps ever made in the game,” they boast. The Shire was recreated at an exact 1:58 scale and includes Bywater Lane, Sackville, Woodhall, Stock, Whitewell, Farmer Maggot’s farmyard, Greenfields, Hobbiton and Bag-End. But that’s not all. The map is designed to real-world functions. “As well as researching old farming techniques, we make sure that we adhere to geological and botanical realism in our terrain. As one of our admins is a professional geologist, we are able to put a great deal of expertise into it.”

You can drool over many gorgeous photos of The Shire on their imgur account. My precioussssss…
