The Xbox One Version of Minecraft won’t have more multiplayer slots than the Xbox 360 version at launch, but that might change later.
Roger Carpenter, Lead Producer for Minecraft on both Xbox versions, tweeted that Xbox One Minecraft would launch with eight players, saying the game “will be 8 player at release but we will continue working to allow more players in a future update!”
Minecraft is making the leap to Xbox One, PS4, and PlayStation Vita in August. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will have several improvements over the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, including significantly bigger worlds and longer draw distances.
