Nintendo Open to Minecraft on its Platforms

on

So you can play Minecraft on PCs, phones, tablets, PlayStations, and Xboxes, but if you’re a Nintendo gamer? You’re out of luck.

That’s not to say Nintendo is completely against the idea of Minecraft on its consoles, though. To the contrary, it sounded intrigued by it in a recent interview.

“We’ve always thought internally that using the GamePad would probably make for a Minecraft that’s very easy to play. And, of course, if we were to do something with Minecraft on the 3DS, similarly we would probably do it where it would be easier to play and could probably reach a lot of kids,” said Shinya Takahashi, one of Nintendo’s development team leads.

“What’s interesting is that, in Japan, Minecraft is not popular in the way it is in the U.S. and Europe, so we’ve also thought that, if we were able to do a partnership like that, it might bring opportunity to help make Minecraft more popular in Japan,” Takahashi said.

Legendary Super Mario Bros. creators Shigeru Miyamoto said he hadn’t played Minecraft himself, but felt like Nintendo’s combination of touch and stick control would be a good fit for the game.

“Maybe we’re meeting with them!” Miyamoto said, laughing. “Who knows?”
