It’s the Chinese New Year, and Minecraft is celebrating with a new skin pack based on Journey to the West, the old Chinese fable. The pack contains a total of 15 characters from the story:
- Black Wind Demon
- Bull Demon King
- Friar Sand
- Guanyin
- Jade Emperor
- Lady Earth Flow
- Lord Hundred-Eyes
- Monk Pig
- Monkey King
- Pale Bone Demon
- Princess Iron Fan
- Red Boy
- Scorpion Demon
- Spider Demon
- Xuanzang
All these guys cost $1.99, but if you don’t have two dollars to spare, Red Boy and Guanyin are free.
Currently this skin pack is only available for the Windows 10 and mobile versions of Minecraft. When Microsoft was asked by Gamespot if the pack is heading to any other platform soon, they responded with the suggestion that they don’t know yet: “Each version of Minecraft has different development schedules and timelines for new skin packs and content. We look forward to releasing new and fun content for each in the future, so stay tuned!” It would be loony to restrict a touted update to two versions not many people use. It’s a matter of when, not if, the Journey to the West skin pack comes out elsewhere (though due to timing issues, you may have to wait for the next Chinese New Year).
