Mojang Chooses Director For Minecraft Movie

on

We now know who’s going to direct the Minecraft movie, assuming it makes its journey through the cutthroat Hollywood machine intact. Mojang’s Vu Bui just updated the site’s update blog with the above photo and the caption, “Some of you may have seen this guy hanging around MINECON in London a couple weeks ago. He’s Rob McElhenney, and he’s going to be directing the upcoming Minecraft movie.” This was followed by a tweet from Lydia Winters, who proclaimed “Minecraft Movie News: the wonderful Rob McElhenney will be our director! Who’s excited?!? … ”

The reaction from most people: “Rob McWho?”

Here’s some context. McElhenney is best known for being the co-creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. A Minecraft movie that went along those same lines would be interesting, but it’s doubtful Warner Bros would go for it. According to Deadline, he’s also known for his passionate, hard-driving pitches that grab studio executives by the throat and choke them into making his ideas.

Anyway, that’s the guy they got.
