It Was Inevitable: Sony Announces Their Own Minecraft Ripoff

on

Sony has been revealing several new games today at a press conference in France. It’s all part of the country’s own E3, referred to as Paris Games Week. Among other announcements, Sony revealed a game called Boundless that bares more than a passing resemblance to Minecraft.

Granted, right now we don’t know what the gameplay is like, so this could turn out to be something completely different. But the visuals bear quite an obvious Minecraft influence. The mountains and scenery are made up of rigid blocks and your character walks around in first-person carrying some kind of tool.

The trailer shows the unseen protagonist slowly walking through electric portals, visiting many different areas instantly. It’s likely these worlds are intended to be created by players of the game, and can be visited by anyone using these portals. At least, that’s what it looks like. All we have is the trailer to go on. If this turns out to be Minecrafty, we’ll be reporting on Boundless a lot more in the future. The game is targeted for a late 2016 release on the Playstation 4.
